UPS Surcharge Increases Significantly, DHL Express Tariff Increases 4.9%

According to recent foreign media reports, as the traditional year-end shopping season is approaching, air cargo capacity will be in tension, and business passenger flights will still be affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, so United Parcel will significantly increase the business season in mainland China and Hong Kong to Europe and the United States parcel delivery surcharge.

China to the United States surcharge increase of nearly one-third: After the July 26 tariff increase, UPS United Parcel once again increased the peak season business surcharge for mainland China and Hong Kong to the United States.

From August 30, the surcharge for express service from mainland China and Hong Kong to the United States increased from US$0.79 per pound to US$1.02 per pound, an increase of 29%;

Express service surcharge from US$0.75 per pound to US$0.98 per pound, an increase of 31%;

Express freight surcharge increased from $1.59 per pound to $1.81 per pound, or 14%.

Sharp spike in surcharges from China to Europe:

Following a tariff increase on June 28, the peak season surcharge for shipments from mainland China and Hong Kong to 19 European countries will increase significantly from September 20.

The surcharge for express service will increase from 0.66 to 1.11 euros per kilogram, an increase of 68%;

Express service surcharge from EUR 0.58 per kg to EUR 1.02, an increase of 76%;

Express freight surcharge increased from 2.21 euros per kilogram to 2.65 euros per kilogram, an increase of 20%.

Asia-Pacific to the United States surcharge tripled:

From August 30, United Parcel has significantly increased the peak season business surcharge for Australia, New Zealand and other Asia-Pacific countries (including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines, etc.) to the United States.

Among them, the surcharge for express service increased from $0.11 per pound to $0.34 per pound, which is more than twice as much;

Express service surcharge increased from $0.11 to $0.29 per pound, an increase of nearly twofold;

Express freight surcharge increase from $0.34 per pound to $1.25, an increase of nearly three times.

The remaining surcharges for all United Parcel peak season business, including business sent from the U.S. and Europe, were not adjusted.

DHL Express raises U.S. shipping rates:

DHL Express, the air and ground express division of German transportation and logistics giant Deutsche Post DHL, said on Friday it will raise U.S. shipping rates by 4.9 percent effective Jan. 1, 2021.

DHL said it will provide additional rate details, including surcharges for parcel shipments, by mid-October. A spokesman said he was unaware of the surcharges that will be imposed during the upcoming peak shipping season.

DHL Express provides international service only to the United States. The company terminated its domestic operations in the U.S. in January 2009, and most of DHL’s U.S. business comes into the country from its logistics network of 220 countries.

The price increase will apply to non-contractual shipments submitted to DHL Express.
