Freight Rate Increase Notice for September 2025: CMA CGM and Maersk Adjust Rates – Up to $1,600!

Recently, major shipping lines including CMA CGM and Maersk have announced their freight rate adjustments for September. Starting September 1, CMA CGM has implemented price increases on routes from Far East to Central & Southern West Africa, and from Far East to East Africa.

For the Far East to Central & Southern West Africa route (including Nigeria, Angola, and other countries), dry cargo container rates will increase by $250 per TEU. On the Far East to East Africa route, rates will rise by $150 per TEU to Kenya, $200 per TEU to Tanzania (Dar es Salaam), and $200 per TEU to Mozambique.

In addition, Maersk has recently issued an official notice introducing a new Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo shipped from the Asia-Pacific region to the Middle East.

Effective September 10, shipments originating from Brunei, mainland China, Hong Kong China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and South Korea, destined for the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, will incur a uniform increase of $700 per container for both 20-foot and 40-foot containers.

Furthermore, Maersk announced that starting September 5, a peak season surcharge of $800–$1,600 per container will be applied to shipments bound for French Polynesia from all origin ports except the United States, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

Starting September 23, the same surcharge amount will also apply to cargo from the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, Colombia, and Taiwan, China, destined for French Polynesia.
